For the first time ever, a woman won an Olympic medal in shooting: The Polish men's volleyball team came back from being down 2 sets against the USSR to win the gold medal. The Games were dominated by the Soviet Bloc, with the USSR and its satellites occupying seven out of top ten places in the medal standings.
